New Way to Call the Show

August 11, 2011

At the request of a listener to our first live show, I added a Skype account for Porc Therapy so that those of you who prefer to use Skype can get in touch with me. Add me, please! The new Skype name is porctherapy. Call on Fridays between 10 PM and midnight to be on the live edition.

The second hour of the first live show on the Liberty Radio Network!

Topics: Government imposed curfew for kids in Chicago, the state assuming the role of parent, drug war and prohibition, banned from Wal Mart for wearing a bikini and not conforming to conventional beauty norms, and a listener email about “dating within one’s league.”

The first hour of the first live show on the Liberty Radio Network! I had a blast. Special thanks to Ian Freeman, LRN’s program director, for behind-the-scenes help getting the show rolling.

Topics: Introducing the new Porc Therapy live show on LRN! Plus, the conviction of fundamentalist Mormon who married 12 and 14 year old girls, alternatives to government force in dealing with child abuse, restorative justice, outreach to people on mormon compounds, and why do people experience blind devotion to religious leaders?

Finally, the caller requested some info on how listeners might be able to get involved in helping abused children find freedom.  Check out the HOPE Organization.  From their description: “The HOPE Organization is a non-profit group dedicated to assisting survivors of abuse within polygamous relationships
on their courageous journey to personal freedom.  HOPE’s purpose is to offer support, protection, assistance, choices, opportunities and hope for the women, children, families and young adults (both male and female) who have been kicked out or have chosen to leave this culture.   Sadly, too many women and children live under immense control, oppression and fear of eternal damnation, and they are caught in the cycle of abuse without a choice or a voice . . . We want to empower them!”  Of course, there are also lots of other support organizations for former FLDS or people trying to escape FLDS life, and for ex Mormons, and for people who have disassociated themselves from various other religions which you can find by doing a more specific search.

Episode zero!  While the live show is cranking into gear to get up and running on the Liberty Radio Network, I recorded a podcast as a dress rehearsal.  Here’s hour two.

Topics: A listener attempts to expose the silliness of hazing fraternity pledges, the beautiful love between two women and where name changing fits in, and polygamous mormons threatened by the state because they were public about their lifestyle.

July 28, 2011

Hello listeners! It’s been a little while since you’ve heard from me but I’ve got some good news. Big changes and new content are coming to Porc Therapy soon (within the next week).

In case you haven’t heard, Porc Therapy is transitioning from a podcast-only show to a live radio show which will be carried on the Liberty Radio Network. The show will be hosted by me, Stephanie, and I’ve been working very hard behind the scenes over the past month to get things up and running. I’ve updated the website, set up a new studio, and arranged for some new things at the show – including this theme song.

Here’s a teaser of things to come… the new Porc Therapy theme song from Hannah Hoffman!

I’ve heard it said that the way to find out how many people are listening to your podcast is to stop doing the podcast. Thank you to everyone who has emailed over the past month to send links and questions, say goodbye to Mike, give feedback, inquire about the future of the show, etc.   Porc Therapy isn’t going anywhere. Stay tuned.

[topic] Have you ever heard the argument “if it’s old, it’s good?” You probably have, even if you’re not aware of it. It is an excuse made by many people in many areas of life, though it’s often masked by different wording. Why is something good, simply because it’s old? Being old and being good are two separate traits, even though they sometimes overlap. Stephanie and Mike talk about this.

hello. im the sex at dawn post gal- just to clarify a few things: im not spam ;)

i have listened to the show and i agree that insecurity, fear and religious guilt (which may have lead to a premature commitment) lead to cheating. lack of communication definately. a thought proposed from this book is: why is is necessarily more moral to divorce, esp. with kids, turn their lives upside down etc. if one or both partners want to sleep with someone else? what if partner A is sick and cant be sexual anymore? if partner B gets their sexual needs met with someone extramaritally and continues to be a lifepartner/caretaker – is that automatically immoral? (this concept is also from savage love..)

anyway, thanks for reading my post. i feel almost famous. haha ;)

basically, i am always questioning our societies judeo-christian system of morality, and have found it fairly lacking in humanity. also, the DRAMA! our 6yr old coming home visibally upset that her friends ‘boyfriend’ is CHEATING..(i have no idea what this means to first graders; im not sure she does either) but this whole pop-culture meme just..ugh..

sorry for the abundance of comments, but just one more thing… i think its tragic, in a way, how much guilt people feel who dont fit into our idealized/ christianized version of human sexuality. how many people feel defective because they dont want monagomy (esp. women)? not to mention homosexuality. i just think if we had a more realistic and humanistic view of our sexuality, it would make for a healthier, less angsty and guilt-ridden society. like the french :)

[topic]
I’d like to talk about open relationships. My question is not so much for me – I get it. My problem is with my girlfriend. I don’t know how to answer some of her questions, mostly about jealousy and such, because I don’t have it. I’m just not that guy.

So, if you have a link or two that I could pass along, that would be great.

Thanks for everything!

Hi Porc Therapy!

I’ve heard some people that I respect say things like “all tattoos and piercings are a manifestation of childhood trauma.” I had never thought about it that way the first time I heard it but I guess it makes sense. Why would someone stick a needle in their flesh repeatedly and purposely create a scar unless they were hurt and wanted to show that to the world? I kind of wanted to hear your take on this, though. What do you think? Are all tattoos and piercings just childhood trauma literally worn on someone’s sleeve?

I learned I was circumcised in junior high gym class when I saw other guys and noticed mine wasn’t like theirs. I never knew I was a circumcise victim until then. I would never talk to my parents about it because I know the subject would be dismissed as unimportant and that I was being ridiculous.

[Listener Feedback]
We learned in way back in skoo that the foreskin has almost 100X the amount of nerve endings per square centimeter than any other area of skin, expect finger tips. When men get snipped as adult they almost alway complain that sex is much less enjoyable.
